PURPOSE: In order to raise awareness of the role of the representatives and delegates of the Member States to the United Nations, the United Nations General Assembly and the United Nations Security Council had proclaimed 25 April as International Delegate’s Day. The observance of the day marks the anniversary of the first day of the San-Francisco Conference, also known as the United Nations Conference on International Organisations. On 25 April, 1945, delegates from fifty countries came together for the first time in San Francisco. Coming together after the devastation of the second world war, their aim was to set up an organization that would restore world peace and impose rules on the post-war world order.
FORUM: “Valuing delegates and representatives.” International Delegate’s Day 2024. The United Nations General Assembly President will address to the Permanent Missions and Observer Offices, Heads of State, Heads of Government and Ministers for Foreign Affairs , U.N. Senior officials with the 2023 Credentials Presented to the Secretary-General on the Rules and Procedure of the United Nations General Assembly.
EVENTS: "Reflections & Vision for the Future." The celebration of the International delegates Day 2024 will be held on April 25th at UNHQ in New york and at UN Office in GENEVA. The 2024 calendar of conferences and meetings of the United Nations is prepared by the Meetings Management Section of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management. It is then reviewed by the Committee on Conferences and approved by the United Nations General Assembly. Meetings with Security Council President.
PUBLICATION:The Protocol and Liaison Service contributes to the Delegates’ Handbook, a booklet that contains information of a general nature about United Nations Headquarters and is applicable throughout the current session.

WHY WE CELEBRATE THE DAY?
In order to raise awareness of the role of the representatives and delegates of the Member States to the United Nations, the UN General Assembly has proclaimed 25 April as International Delegate’s Day. and established the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations; With the adoption of resolution 73/286, the General Assembly recognizes the crucial role of the delegates in fulfilling the main goals of the United Nations. ACTIONS
The delegates represent their countries in meetings at the United Nations. Unless a politician of higher rank is present, the delegates speak and vote on behalf of their country at the UN General Assembly, and other fora, such as the UN Security Council. The delegates are appointed by their countries. Part of the delegates’ tasks is to live up to these goals, whether it is maintaining international peace, encouraging respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, or promoting effective multilateralism.
