PARTNERSHIPS
The United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution A/RES/78/281 entitled "World Football Day" with 170 co-sponsors during its 80th plenary session. This resolution recognizes the profound impact that football has on societies worldwide. We celebrate this day first, to recognize the potential of the sport to promote health, peace, unity, and development globally. and second to promote unifying, educational, cultural and humanitarian values around the world, particularly in Africa, through youth-oriented football development programmes.
The objectives are:
To celebrate the universal appeal and power of football as a tool for positive social impact.
To provide a platform for member states and stakeholders to share their experiences and perspectives on how football can be leveraged to address global challenges.
To catalyze a global movement that utilizes the unifying language of football to drive progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
With 211 affiliated associations, FIFA supports them financially and logistically through various programmes. As representatives of FIFA in their countries, they have obligations to respect the statutes, aims and ideals of football's governing body and promote and manage our sport accordingly. Through their partnership, which began in 2019 with the signing of the first MoU, FIFA and the AFD have developed programmes such as the FIFA Forward and the Football for Schools.
